The Extinction Paradox

It's a frightening question: 'Do you want to die?' We first think about a scene in a gangster movie, where someone is threatened at gunpoint to get to the truth. But when asked directly, we shake our heads and vehemently say, 'No, of course I don't!' 


Then why are we killing ourselves? We, the human species, are vigorously polluting the environment, destroying the biodiversity and changing the climate. We are clearly steering towards global societal collapse, but when asked about it, we vehemently deny it. That's a paradox in need of explanation.
