It is the first monograph of the artist Peter Buggenhout, a Belgian sculptor that works and lives in Ghent, but who's work has been presented in a wide range of important venues all over the world [recent examples are Saatchi Gallery (London), Gladstone Gallery (NY), MOMA PS1 (NY), Palais De Tokyo (Paris), Tai Pei Biennial (Taiwan), .]
He wished to design himself the make-up of the lay-out of this monumental book of nearly 400 pages, like an extension of his artistic work. Besides the pages devoted to his work, he wishes to pay homage to a certain number of men - artists, scenario writers, photographers,. - famous or anonymous, whose courses and work influenced him, questioned, even encouraged him in his artistic practice.
The book is thus punctuated by booklets - printed on a green paper clearly in order to create a rupture with the rest of the work - presenting the great influences to which he wanted to refer, booklets which will be intercalated between the reproduction pages of his installations and sculptures. An interview of the artist by Eva Wittocx (curator for the M Museum of Leuwen), a text of the historian of art Selen Ansen "Upside down", and an extract of the text on the "Garbology" (the archaeology of garbage) of William Rathje, in French and English, supplement the work.
