Almere is almost forty years old. An area which used to be an open polder, reclaimed from de sea, has grown into thriving city with a population of about 200.000. This book presents a 'bird's eye view' of the city's development over the course of its brief history to date. It shows both the familiar and less familiar sights of modern Almere. We see the new city centre, the red tower blocks of Almere Buiten, the silver 'UFO' alongside the A6, the lush greenery of the many parks and woodlands, and the long, straight lines which characterise the topography of Flevoland. Somehow, everything seems even more spectacular when seen from the air. As we leaf through the detailed aerial photos of the city centre, the residential districts and the industrial areas, we can clearly see how trends in urban planning and architecture have influenced the city's growth. Over 140 full-page photographs are accompanied by short informative descriptions, and a full index.
