This book is a compilation of the books "Vincent in Drenthe" and "The Journey of the Painter Vincent van Gogh." In 1880, Vincent van Gogh decided he wanted to be an artist. However, he didn't yet know what kind of artist he wanted to be. An illustrator for a magazine? Working in the reproduction department of an art dealer? In September 1883, Vincent went to Drenthe to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. There, in the southeastern region of Drenthe, Vincent realized why all the jobs he had tried had led to nothing. By shedding this baggage from his past, Vincent could decide to be a painter for the rest of his life. He wanted to become an accomplished painter, no longer dependent on his brother Theo's money. To achieve this, he had to find the right teachers or learning environment. This took him to Nuenen, Antwerp, Paris, Arles, and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, all the way to Auvers-sur-Oise. In the latter town, he met Alex de Goede, a traveling salesman who was very interested in Vincent's life story. Vincent died in 1890, almost seven years after his decision in Drenthe.
