This coffee-table book is related to the film Holland - Natuur in de Delta, the sequel to the successful nature film De Nieuwe Wildernis. During one year, top photographers Frans Lemmens and Marjolijn van Steeden have followed in the footsteps of the film crews and have crossed our country in order to compose a fascinating story in pictures. Holland - Natuur in de Delta is a (re)discovery of The Netherlands; a tribute to our rivers and coastal area and the rich nature brought to our delta. A journey through the eyes of animals that have long populated the delta before us. Think of the mighty sea-eagle, King of the delta. The beaver building dams in the water and digging channels, just like humans. But also the hare, the so-called 'cheetah of the polder', the unfamiliar large blue, and the stickleback on an epic journey to its spawning grounds. They are the main characters. A few thousand years ago, humans began to play a role as well. Over the centuries, we managed to impose more and more rules on the water. In past centuries, our culture was shaped by the struggle against the water. Nowadays, nature is no longer considered our enemy and we are looking for a way to use nature's vast creative force and restore the balance. In more and more places we succeed in creating space for a fruitful collaboration with nature. After many centuries, the eagle has returned. The beaver feels at home again. The river experiences the beginning of a new era, in which human interference is disappearing. Man is changing the map to his liking, but this time in symbiosis with nature. Together they can recover the ecosystem in all its glory.
